Bigger and bigger... 2008 Design Contest Report - LG News - 05.2008

Because of the smashing success of its 2007 Design Contest in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, LG Chem Europe increased the size of this year’s event to no less than 10 European countries. The theme of the contest, “Catering”, was left very broad deliberately, so that students could let their creativity run free. To compete, students had to make the best use of the New Generation of Natural Acrylic Stone: LG HI-MACS®. After the tough selection round in January, the finals of the contest were held on Thursday, February 21, in Geneva, Switzerland, the European headquarters of LG Chem, with 10 teams from the Czech Republic, the UK, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Russia, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden competing. It was an emotion-packed day with the ten teams taking turns to introduce their schools, their partner companies, and their project. It was not an easy decision for the jury of 5 reknowned European architects. Over the course of an enchanting dinner, and to the sound of a guitar made of LG HI-MACS®, the European Grand Champion prize was awarded to Karel Vranek of the Czech Republic.
